Chapter 5, page 6 Jul. 31st, 2006 @ 11:06 am
This chapter has certainly been interesting in terms of drawing. First, I am extremely dissatisfied with the way I have drawn Mystery Guy in EVERY SINGLE PAGE until this last one. I just can't seem to draw him consistently. Granted, my style has changed a bit since the beginning of the comic (for the better, I hope), but damn, he's only recognizable because of the hair (which seems to change in length and volume panel to panel). Apparently, the shape of his eyes and face are impossible to replicate from one page to another. Argh.

Second, this page, page 6. It is in COLOR. Man. I do not remember color being this difficult. This single-panel page took six days to make (okay... a total of about 32 hours, distributed throughout six days). That is A LONG TIME. I guess my perfectionism has outrun my skill by miles.

Third, I really need a scanner. Yes, the tablet makes scrumptious pretty lines with varying weights which I've become quite fond of, but I'll be damned if it isn't frustrating and incredibly time-consuming. I would like to know how other artists do it. In fact, I think I'll go and ask a few. I'll say, "HOW DO YOU DO IT?" and they'll say "it's simple!" and then I'll be sad.

Fourth, I'm really happy with this page. I see two tiny mistakes, but overall I'm very satisfied with how it came out. So pretty. I had to give Judith's entire character design a complete overhaul, color-wise. If you'd kindly step over to the Cast page you may see the horror that was her color scheme before this. I was never really happy with it, as I thought she looked like a clown in makeup, but that's the way ferret faces are colored so I didn't have much choice. Then I remembered I have artistic license and no one is going to sue me for changing colors a bit. So I did, and I think she looks much better now. I'll have to make a new picture for the Cast page to hide my shame.

I'm secretly working on a new page design because I'd prefer not to use Drupal anymore, and instead have something with less potential security vulnerabilities. I'm also moving to a different server. I plan on adding stuff to the new design, such as an Archive (which is very necessary at this point), updated Cast pages, and a store of some sort.

Classes May. 10th, 2006 @ 03:17 pm
Two more finals, and I'm done for the semester. This time I'm going to stay in America for the majority of the summer, so don't worry about not getting any updates from May to August. Since I won't have to worry about classes (only work), I'll try to bring the updates back up to one a week instead of one every two weeks. I want this story to ADVANCE FASTER, dammit.

Good news, everyone! Jan. 25th, 2006 @ 03:22 pm
After two hectic weeks with too much homework/classwork/workwork/I-CAN'T-DRAW-days, I've managed to work on an update. Yay.

ARGH! Nov. 6th, 2005 @ 06:32 pm
Yes. My site is down. Why yes, I do have an update ready. No, I can't do anything about it.

My webmaster was in the middle of moving my site to a better server, when BAM, his internet got cut off for lack of payment. So now my website is floating in the middle of nowhere, hooray!

» About this Friday's update
I did a lot of new things for this page:

First, I actually started working on this one on Monday. I drew it that day, then scanned it Tuesday, started coloring yesterday, and finished about ten minutes ago. I have TIME TO LIVE! OMG!

I used a different font. This is a more comic-looking font, downloaded from Blambot. I messed with the width a little. I think it looks loads better. I decided this after looking at my hand-lettered April Fool's comic and then a previous one. I immediately went, "MYRIAD SHOULD NOT BE HERE," and thus banned the poor helpless font into non-use.

I used different perspectives for the background and failed miserably.

I realized my shading sucked and thus have decided to try even more new things next time. I think I'll go for a more cel-shaded-esque approach.

So I didn't get the job I was fervently hoping for... which means I'm extremely poor and in very dire economic conditions, and will be for quite a long time.

I'm considering making a store and selling T-shirts and drawings (both commissions and ready-made prints). I'm not quite sure how to go about this yet, but, eh. Do you think it would work? I mean, really, would anyone actually BUY this stuff?

I'm perilously close to desperate. :(
» owwie
I just finished my last-minute 6-hour coloring marathon and my back and hand hurt... as usual. I just can't manage to plan things. After Friday, I say, "OKAY. Weekend. I get to rest!" Then, Monday, "It's only Monday! I have tons of time!" Tuesday is the same. Wednesday, I think, "Okay, I should start drawing now... ohh look shiny!" And then Thursday it's always, "OH CRAP IT'S THURSDAY I HAVE TO DO THE COMIC." I'm starting to accept it as The Process. Not a good idea, really.

I somehow forced myself to color one of the many past pages I have yet to color - Jan 21. What motivated me? I don't know. Probably the fact that it was half done already. I just did it veeerrry slooowly.

I didn't shade the comic today because I need to sleep now kthnx.
» GAH
Oh my God, I can't believe it's Thursday already. x_x
I seriously need to make myself a comic-friendly schedule.

Good news, at least: I've already done the script for every page for the next nine weeks. Woot.

I had two tests and one major assignment this week, as well as applications for several jobs and a scholarship. So I just got to scan the comic a couple of hours ago, and am working on it right now. The way things look, I think I'll have the update ready either tomorrow or on Sunday.

No Super Tony 'cause my brother is a lazy bum. >/

edit: I finished the B&W version, so I'll put that up in the meantime.
» Days are not long enough, dammit!
I sat down in front of the computer today and forced myself to work on what I had to do. I had, in this order (not including schoolwork):

- Three comic pages to color (the two last ones and the current one)
- One EXTREMELY OVERDUE commission for my friend Danur/Tursi, already half done
- Two 100x100 commissioned avatars for a forum

I thought I'd at least manage to finish this week's comic page and finish Danur's drawing. All I managed to actually accomplish was the comic page. I am a fail. :(

Photoshop is a vortex of time.
» Hooray!
Yay, the forum is back up. Thanks again, Cyrus!

Problems that had been plaguing my life have been solved this morning, after a particularly stressful week. I am very, very, VERY happy. Unfortunately the stress made me die a little inside and that means the comic for this week has only just been inked about half an hour ago. Scanning may be done in a couple of hours, depending on whether or not my Digital Imaging professor lets me use the scanner for something that is not class-related. In any case, there will be an update... it'll just probably be in black and white again.

I'm too happy to care much. :D ...that doesn't mean I won't work on the comic as much as possible, don't kill me.
» wtf!
Dammit, my forum died! And I was so happy with it... :(
» Welcome back, Livejournal...
Well, guys, i didn't get to announce it here the moment it happened because LJ was down, but here it is now:

Undone has moved to: http://undone-comic.com.

It hs a better layout, a much better forum, and a new page which is the Sunday strip. I will eventually erase everything from the Keenspace account, but I'll leave it up for a bit until everyone sees that it has moved.
» And I'm done for the week. WHOO.
Okay, so the comic was two hours late... I was out getting food, and when I got back I checked to see if it had updated properly. It hadn't. The reason? A dumb mistake on my part: I had set the automatic Keenspace update date to 20040116, instead of 2005. But it was promptly fixed, and no damage was done. Yay!

I just finished uploading the Sunday strip, which was colored by me (it took all frickin' day, damn... granted, /my/ comic page took like three days, but still) and drawn/scripted by my little brother. There's supposed to be one of those every Sunday now, but I can't guarantee anything since it depends on my brother.

I'm taking the weekend off. Next week maybe I'll do Randalph's and Sandra's cast pages, and upload some banners to link to my site with. Right now, sleep is due.
» Updated
Guess what. Page for Friday, January 14th has been drawn, inked, scanned, COLORED, and uploaded. To be available for your viewing pleasure in exactly 24 hours and ten minutes.
Now, to work on the Sunday comic.
» BWAHAHAHA!!!
Guess what guys!
I HAVE A COMPUTER!!
And of course, I'm already working while cackling insanely. So far I've only done Trent's and Judith's cast pages (I really love how Trent's portrait came out, by the way). Total work time: ~12 hours. My back is pain. And was it worth it? Yes. Oh yes. How I missed being able to color digitally.
» Hiatus
I'm afraid that spending the holidays with my family means being in place very far away from scanners. Therefore, I won't be able to update until next year, when I'm done with... celebrations and whatnot.

So I'm putting the comic on hiatus until January 15. I may possibly update on the 8th instead, depending on various circumstances, but I don't want to make a promise I can't keep. c_c

Also, my brother wants to do some Sundays. I guarantee they will be hilarious.
» First update of December :D
Updated. Only one page, unfortunately, since I am still swamped with final projects for Drawing class. Ah, the college life.

SCENE OVER. Hooray. Now, to focus on a character that hasn't been heard from in a little while...
» Thanksgiving break
I'm going to Houston with a friend for my First Thanksgiving Ever. As a result, there shall be no comic this week, alas. I won't promise to do two pages for the week after, but if I can, I will.

Happy holidays!
